With a full staff of clinical cultural specialists, licensed mental health clinicians, chemical dependency treatment providers, peer support specialists, case managers, nurses, and administrative support personnel, the San Poil Treatment Center specializes in addressing the unique needs of the Native American population.

Our counseling staff includes experts in the following areas:

Counselors & Skills Coaches

Our counselors are offered paid continuing education and training, allowing them to provide clients with the most effective and cutting-edge programming available. A primary counselor is assigned to each client to help them develop and implement a treatment program. The primary counselor gets to know the client to provide an individualized treatment experience. 

In addition to our counseling services on chemical dependency, treatment is enhanced through the use of additional physical activities, sweat lodges for both men and women, gardening opportunities, and additional information regarding parenting, child impact of addiction, and the overall health of each client moving forward.  

Other team members, such as the mental health and medical teams, aid in the diagnosis and/or medication needs to help stabilize the client allowing them to focus on chemical dependency treatment.

Charley

My Name is Charley Thomas (Wenatchi, Moses Columbia) I am an enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribes.

I am currently a student at Northwest Indian college seeking a Chemical Dependency Degree that NWIC provides.

I grew up in Nespelem, WA and am a father of four children. My passion is helping others in the fight against alcoholism and addiction.

Hello, my name is Randolph Tonasket my mother is Lorraine Antoine my father is Richard Tonasket. I have two brothers Alex Tonasket and Anthony Tonasket.

I was born in Republic and raised in Keller. I am currently enrolled in college courses at Northwest Indian College to pursue my Associates Degree in Chemical Dependency. I am employed at the San Poil Treatment Center as a Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee.

I love my career. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to help individuals that are lost on the same path that I was lost on in my younger years. I want to help them find the light like I did and live the beautiful life they were meant to live the one the creator has intended for them.

Hello, my name is Heather Coates. I am a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor level 2 coming from Oregon among other states. I received my bachelor’s degree in Tennessee from Lee University in Marriage and Family Counseling and I originally hail from central Florida. I have a background in mental health including crisis and intensive case management, geriatric and youth services. I later went on to study behaviorism and substance use disorders. I am currently a Substance Use Disorder Professional at San Poil Treatment Center in Keller, Washington and I look forward to working alongside you on your path to recovery. “You can’t change the world, but you can make a dent.”

I am a substance use disorder provider from New York. I have over 20 years of experience in different modalities of substance abuse treatment. I came to San Poil because I wanted to learn how Native Americans are treating their population of substance use. I am a mother of 3 children and 5 grandchildren. 

Jewel

I have an Associate of Science Degree from Dallas Community College in Chemical Dependency Counseling, Bachelors of Arts Degree from University of California-Berkeley in Criminology, a Masters of Public Administration from University of Southern California and a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Care Counseling with emphasis in Family Counseling from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. I have been licensed with the State of Texas in Chemical Dependency Counseling and on the national level as a Chemical Dependency Counselor.

I am educated in a variety of therapeutic approaches but the ones I like the most are Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Specialty group areas include seeking safety programs (domestic violence), anger management, and bereavement support, DWI/DUI Education and drug offender’s educational programs for which I am also licensed. Experience include residential treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient level of care.

 

I believe that each person is on a journey we can be stuck and not able to move or we get on the road and reach out for help and support and continue on the red road to wellbriety, recovery, healing and peace. I am a published author of four books of which three are daily meditations and one fictional. I enjoy traveling and photography.

Aisha

My name is Aisha Stout and I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor from the US Virgin Islands. I received my Master of Science in Psychology from Capella University in 2014.

I have been working in Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse for the last nine years primarily in the areas of Adult Mental Health, Medically Assisted Treatment for Opiate Addiction, and Addiction Recovery in both residential and out-patient settings.

I am incredibly excited to have been selected as part of the in-patient staff that is providing accessible, evidence based, culturally competent, treatment to an amazing population. 

Lawrence

I am a Colville Tribal member and SUDP counselor in training. I have been in recovery for 26 years. I’ve worked in many roles to help the Tribes including Fish and Wildlife, rearing salmon in our acclimation ponds and working in the hatchery. I was also a Tribal Gaming Agent and security. I went to Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) to become a correctional officer when our new jail was opening to assure we had enough officers to open the facility. I was also a private contractor sponsor for United Indians of all tribes for Walla Walla State Penitentiary to assure the Native population behind the walls could conduct sweat lodge and drumming.

I decided to move home from Idaho Falls when I heard the treatment center was going to be built. I made my way back to the reservation and contributed to the roofing and siding during the construction. I am now going to school at NWIC and plan to continue my education in the future there. Thank everyone who has supported me along the way.

Way’ (Hello), my name is Setra Ford. I’m from Inchelium, WA. I am an enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribes. I am currently a student at Eastern Washington University seeking my bachelor’s degree in health administration. I am the recovery coach for SPTC and enjoy being able to help each individual on their recovery journey.

Michael Joseph

sləxlaxt waý x̌ast sx̌əl x̌ʕalt (“My friends, hello, good day.”) My name is Mike Joseph and I am a Clinical Cultural Specialist for the Colville Confederated Tribes Behavioral Health and our new treatment center up on the Sanpoil. Before this I worked for 5 years as a Career Counselor in the Tribe’s Higher Education Program. I began this substance abuse counseling work while attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. I started off as a Detox Counselor in Durango for Southwest Colorado Mental Health Center I eventually worked my way up to Certified Addiction Counselor III. Then I got a job with the Southern Ute Community Action Program at the Peaceful Spirit Residential and Outpatient Treatment Center on the Southern Ute Reservation in Ignacio, CO (about 27 miles from Durango). There I did DUI Counseling for Native and non-Native clients and across the street, at the Southern Ute Detention Center, I counseled Natives from all over the Southwest! I graduated from Fort Lewis College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Indian Studies, a self-constructed major, with my new title being Cultural Facilitator. I moved back here to Washington in the spring of 2009 and took the NAADAC exam in Spokane Valley, which I passed to become a nationally certified counselor. On my road of life I had to experience many hardships and many travels, all of it to bring me back to our captik̓ʷl (Creation Stories) and our sqilxlcawt (Indigenous Lifeway).  lim̓lm̓t slax̌t (Thank you).

Nikanot Sylvia Tatshama Pealsey

I am an enrolled Colville Tribes member from the Chief Joseph Nez Perce, Moses Columbia, Palus and San Poil bands. I live near the Keller Ferry with husband Dell Peasley and grandson Cody Abrahamson. Art has been a part of my life since I was five years old; things taught to me by my grandmother and other elders are shared with whoever wants to learn the craft. My passion is rawhide processed from fresh deer hides, making several types of items using parfleche rawhide (belts, purses, earrings and several other items). Acrylic paint is the preferred choice of medium I use daily. I have served in the past as Cultural Director at Nespelem Elementary, Keller Community Center Director, Colville Business Council member from the Keller District and Traditional Cultural Plant Specialist for CCT History Archaeology Department among several other past work experiences. I also am passionate about our traditional plants to be used as fiber, food and medicines. I enjoy sharing my knowledge acquired during my 66 years with others so that our teachings will live on.
